Assignment 2 in IT 365 was a Turnitin assignment about the gender gap and gender bias that is in the technology world of today. The first part of the assignment was to copy and paste information from websites into the document and post it to Turnitin. The point of this was to learn how plagiarism can be detected with software like Turnitin, and plagiarism can be a factor in failing the exercise, the class or even being expelled from school. The second part of the assignment was to write another document and only paraphrase in our own words. This document was turned in to Turnitin and a plagiarism score was generated. My score was less than 25%, like way less, so I was happy and turned it in to our instructor. I think this was an interesting exercise, and I learned a lot of information about the existence of a gender gap and a gender bias between the males and females in the technological fields. This assignment ties into the ISTE standard to facilitate and inspire student learning, where teachers engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources by having students explore turnitin and learning about plagiarism. This exercise also ties into the ISTE standard to promote and model digital citizenship where students learn respect for copyright laws and use the appropriate documentation of resources. This exercise ties to the common core standards research to build and present knowledge, production and distribution of writing, integration of knowledge and ideas.
